![]() Next Page The research staff of the Kibbutz Holidays Institute in Israel has recently developed the following suggested ceremony to be performed on the eve of Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israel's Day of Independence. Though initially designed for a family seated around the holiday table, it can be easily adapted as a celebration of a community or Chavura. The framework of the celebration consists of four cups of wine, seven candles, and seven types of food. The contents are based on readings and songs. Since communal singing is an integral part of the activity, please feel free to add to or change the songs that we have suggested, in accordance with the familiarity of the designated audience with modern Israeli songs. The original Hebrew version of this experimental ceremony is being distributed this year in Israel in a temporary format. Based on the results of this year's holiday celebration, we plan to publish it next year in an expanded and colorful design. We are now presenting a translated text for an English-speaking audience. At this stage there is still no copyright, so feel free to print it and make copies for friends. All we ask is that you send us your comments and criticisms.
